An odd but enjoyable book

I finished reading Smile Now, Cry Later by Paul MacDonald. I enjoyed it, but I am not entirely sure why. Chuck is a corporate drone, recently separated, and looking for something new and different. He was OK as a character, but there wasn’t much of anyone else who really appealed to me. I learned more about corporate America and real estate than I probably wanted to, but I can see that they were necessary to the story.

Chuck decides to take a missing colleagues effects to the family and gets caught up in their drama. In trying to help them, he discovers a lot about real estate. Of course, his wife is an attorney who has one client: a real estate developer. There are twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and that was good. It almost made up for the lack of relatable characters.

Hopefully after this glowing review, you don’t have your heart set on reading it because the book does not seem to be available on Amazon, and I have no idea where or how I got it. If you happened to run across it, though, you might want to give it a try.
